Quasar

A quasar is the brilliant core of a distant galaxy, powered by a supermassive black hole devouring surrounding gas. As matter falls into the accretion disk it releases enormous energy, making quasars among the most luminous objects in the universe, often outshining their entire host galaxy. Because their light has traveled for billions of years, quasars are also windows into the early cosmos. The brightest known, J0529-4351, shines with the power of hundreds of trillions of Suns.
